2009 Spyker C8 Aileron Unveiled at Geneva

Geneva witnessed the introduction of a new Spyker model for the second consecutive time, as the 2008 edition hosted the launch of the C8 Aileron prototype. This time, the Dutch supercar manufacturer used the Swiss show to unveil the production version of its all-new second-generation sports car whose design is "heavily inspired by Spyker's aviation heritage", as Victor R. Muller, Spyker Cars’ founder and Chief Executive Officer, said during the launch event.

To get to more technical facts, the 2009 Spyker C8 Aileron is powered by a mid-mounted Audi 4.2-liter V8 engine that develops a maximum power of 400 hp. There are two transmission configurations available, namely a rear mid-mounted 6-speed Getrag manual and a rear mid-mounted 6-speed ZF automatic with torque converter. The car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with maximum speed rated at 300 km/h (187 mph).

Interiors have been upgraded with leather sourced from Dutch Royal Tanneries Hulshof and brushed aluminum dashboard. Driver and passenger airbags are standard while turned aluminum dashboard with Chronoswiss dials are optional. In terms of in-car entertainment, the new Spyker comes with Kharma Sound System (digital radio, Bluetooth interface, iPod connectivity and navigation system).

“When we unveiled the C8 Aileron prototype here last year, we wanted to make a clear statement to the industry that Spyker was about to take the next step in its short but intense history, by introducing its second-generation sports cars, developed from scratch. Within a year we transformed that prototype into the production-ready car we show here today," Spyker's founder added at the press conference at the show.

Pricing for the new Spyker starts at 189,990 euros for the manual gearbox and at 195,990 euros for the automatic transmission. First deliveries are expected to begin in May 2009.
