German sports car manufacturer Porsche today announced pricing for the new generation Boxster and Cayman models plus updated pricing details for the 2009 911 and Cayenne. In short terms, the base model of the 2009 Boxster will be priced at $46,600 while the S version will cost $56,700. The base Cayman will be available for $50,300, with the S variant going as much as $60,200. All models are expected to arrive on the market in March this year.
The prices are only a bit higher than the ones for the previous models, Porsche said in a press statement, despite the fact that the upgraded models incorporate an important upgrade of interior and exterior styling plus equipment levels. “This represents about a 1.8 percent increase from the previous-generation Boxster and Cayman lineup for 2008,” the German automaker explained.
The best example is given by Cayman which now comes with more fuel-efficient engines but still able to provide an impressive load of power. The 2.9-liter flat six cylinder unit for instance develops 255 hp in the Boxster and 265 hp in the Cayman, according to figures mentioned by the car manufacturer. Speaking of features, Porsche added significant new standard and optional equipment, including the Porsche Communication Management with Touchscreen operation, XM Radio, Bluetooth and iPod interface.
And above all, both Boxster S and Cayman are equipped with Porsche's 7-speed double-clutch gearbox Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). “PDK is a state-of-the-art, race-inspired technology that is essentially two transmissions in one: it can be driven as a full automatic or it can be shifted manually via shifters on the steering wheel or through the shift lever. The result is superior performance with improved fuel efficiency,” Porsche said. The new prices will take effect on February 3, 2009.
