2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z Coupe Official Details and Photos

The 2009 Nissan Nismo 370Z sneaked into the spotlight in New York, together with the next generation 370Z Roadster. The two vehicles were unveiled during a webcast held by Nissan North America.

The new NISMO 370Z is built on the Nissan Front Midship (FM) platform, which boasts a 4 wheel independent suspension. The Nismo is powered by a 3.7l DOHC V6 aluminum block engine, fitted with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL).

The VVEL works by optimizing optimize intake valve open/close movements to allow air to enter the combustion chambers at the optimum moment. Thanks to both the engine and the tweaks made to it, Nissan Nismo 370Z's engine develops 370 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 276 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm.

The V6 is mated to a 6 speed manual transmission with SynchroRev Match function, a feature Nissan calls "the world’s first synchronized downshift rev matching manual transmission". The function allows engine speeds to be adjusted to the speed of the next gear position, smoothing up/down shifts.

To help improve engine performance, the side sills and a unique rear bumper help control airflow under the vehicle, while the functional rear spoiler increases downforce. The exterior of the Nismo also features sculptural fenders, upswept quarter windows, boomerang shaped headlights and taillights, vertical door handles and aluminum hood, door panels and hatchback.

The interior of the sports car is built around a scooped instrument panel with a full-length center console that separates the seats. The instrument panel includes a 3-pod cluster with oil temperature, voltmeter and clock, while the speedometer and tachometer include an “initial sweep” function, coming alive when the NISMO Z is first started.

Comfort and infotainment include Nissan Intelligent Key with Push Button Start, power windows, automatic climate control, rear window defroster with timer, dual overhead map lights and an AM/FM/CD/AUX 4-speaker audio system steering wheel-mounted controls.

There will be only one version of the Nismo 370Z Coupe, which will come in five exterior colors: Pearl White, Brilliant Silver, Magnetic Black, Solid Red and Platinum Graphite. The new coupe will be available in showrooms across the US starting June 2009, at a price that is yet to be disclosed.
