2009 Jeep Rocky Mountain Edition Detailed

The 2009 models of the Jeep lineup (Patriot, Liberty and Grand Cherokee) now come in new clothing, as Chrysler decided to issue the Rocky Mountain Edition. The trim is a bundle of custom features, such as uconnect tunes, power sun roof and aluminum wheels.

According to the producer, the edition package brings $2,300 worth of improvements for $1,595. But even so, if you add the huge fuel consumption averages, you might find you haven't made such a good deal after all.

The Jeep Patriot Rocky Mountain Edition boasts a 2.4l engine, controlled via a five-speed manual gearbox, that produces 172 horsepower. The engine delivers a best-in-class 23 mpg (10.2l/100 km) in the city and 28 mpg (8.4l/100 km)on the highway on both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models.

An optional 2.0l engine, matted to the CVT2 with auto stick, is also available for the Patriot. Fuel consumption for this engine about the same with the other powerplant, but it only comes with the two wheel drive versions.

The 3.7l SOHC V6 engine featured on the Jeep Liberty Rocky Mountain Edition, based on the Sport version, provides the vehicle with 210 horsepower and a fuel economy of 16 mpg city (14.7l/100 km) and 22 mpg 910.7l/100 km) on the highway.

The Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain, based on the Laredo model, is equipped with either the standard 3.7l V6 engine, which develops 210 horsepower, or with a 4.7l V8, boasting 305 horsepower. This Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) takes the edge over the other Chrysler powerplants because it has the ability to use an up to 85 percent concentration of E85.

Prices for the Rocky Mountain starts at $19,765 for the Patriot and $25,355 for the Liberty. The more expensive Cherokee has a starting price of $32,825. The edition will be available in four exterior paint schemes: Inferno Red, Light Graystone, Bright Silver and Brilliant Black.

Chrysler thought the special edition as a way to "add more value and features to our iconic Jeep lineup,” as Mike Accavitti, Jeep and Dodge Brands director said. The special edition is available for order and will arrive at US and Canada dealerships later this month.
