2009 Hyundai i20 Three-Door Unveiled

Beside a bunch of other models we already told you about, Hyundai will also present at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March the three-door variant of i20, a model particularly addressed to "young professionals without children," as the automaker said in a statement. Obviously, the three-door i20 is based on the five-door variant but is weighing 10 kilograms less than it. In addition, it boasts exactly the same trim levels, Classic Comfort and Style.

"Sharing many of its styling features with the five-door i20, the front and rear of the three-door model remain unchanged. The distinctive crease lines that run along the side are enhanced by the longer front doors and sporty, upswept shape of the rear-side window," Hyundai said about the newly-released i20 three-door variant.

In essence, the three-door model will offer a choice of seven Euro IV-compliant gasoline and diesel engines, each of them being particularly focused on fuel economy and CO2 emissions. While delivering less power than the other variants, Hyundai says the 1.2-liter 78 horsepower "Kappa" petrol engine is expected to be the best-selling powerplant in the range. It provides a fuel consumption of 5.2 liters per 100 km (45.2 mpg) in combined cycle and releases about 124 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

A new addition to the engine lineup is the 75 horsepower 1.4-liter diesel unit that achieves a fuel economy rating of 53.4 mpg in combined mode (4.4 l/100km), with CO2 emissions decreased to 116 g/km. All models will benefit from a three-year unlimited mileage warranty.

In terms of safety, the three-door i20 comes with six airbags (front, side and curtain) as standard plus active head-restraints, front seatbelt pretensioners, ABS, ESC and EBD. Speaking of features, this model incorporates climate control, multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, power doors and mirrors, MP3 system and four speakers.
