2009 Audi Summer Concerts

This year Audi Summer Concerts proudly celebrate their twentieth season. With a motto that guarantees the highest level of enjoyment, "A Feast of Music" event will bring together international stars, famous orchestras and impressive classical musical talent.

There are also other several reasons to celebrate this year for Audi. The brand looks behind and sees a hundred years of eventful history and has the honor to pay tribute to various notable personalities (250 years since Handel's death, 200 years since Haydn's death and at the same time 200 years since the birth of Mendelssohn).

On July 2, the 2009 Summer Concerts starts with the opening performance of the Audi Wind Ensemble as the  rousing "Festival Ouverture" will enchant the auditorium from Ingolstadts's Klenze Park. To set the atmosphere on fire, the French "Ephemere" pyrotechnic artists will  accompany the orchestra with a fabulous inaugural fireworks display.

A day later, a formal opening will be given by the Bavarian State Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano, the same orchestra that made history at the Audi's Summer Concerts in 1996. Until July 30, performances of the Basel Chamber Orchestra, Arcadi Volodos, the Czech Philharmonic Choir from Brno or the Audi Youth Choir Academy and many others will enchant the audience.

The final events are dedicated to the memory of Georg Friedriech Handel. The exceptional counter-tenor Jorg Waschinski, accompanied by the Georgian Chamber Orchestra will sing various arias by the famous composer on August 1.

On August 2, the last day of this four-week festival, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra conducted by Igor Bolton will sing Handel's "Theodora", with Christine Schafer in the leading role.
