As far as problems go, your rear differential braking in a big, heavy truck sounds like a very serious one. And this could very much be a concern for owners of 2009 to 2010 Dodge Ram pickup trucks.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says it’s received no less than 12 complaints saying that the rear differential in the Ram truck failed, locking the wheels. Eight of the reports happened at speeds of over 35 mph, and four of those resulted in complete loss of control.

There’s even been a crash, so given enough time the problem could prove quite serious. The NHTSA found that one of the problems causing this could be the rear differential pinion nut. In the case of rear drive shaft failure, in one instance the fuel tank was punctured.
