Inspired by the 1954 concept car, Advanced Automotive Technologies produced six examples of the Corvette Nomad like the one we’ll cover today. One of two units painted in Torch Red, this LS-engined wagon is offered for $130k even though the seller isn’t sure of the mileage.
Launched during the 50th anniversary of the Corvette, the Nomad package from Advanced Automotive Technologies features chrome screens over the headlights, a toothy grille in chrome, sweeping side trim, jet tails on the fenders, and glorious tailfins. The exhaust tips and rear slats are nothing to scoff at either, and the same can be said about the way the rear hatch opens.

The attention-grabbing exterior is matched by a red interior that's sporty in design but overkill as well in terms of vibrance. Red can also be found on the engine cover of the LS1 hiding under the hood, a 5.7-liter V8 that channels 350 horsepower to the crankshaft. Shifting is the duty of a six-speed manual with a cue-ball knob, which spins 3.15 gear for the rear axle.

Joined by the owner’s manual, the retro-styled build is equipped with double-wishbone suspension, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and modern amenities like air conditioning and a CD player. Also fitted with a head-up display, the Corvette Nomad can be enjoyed with the roof off whenever you feel like it thanks to the targa design and latching mechanism.

A polarizing build through and through, this fellow here is just as controversial in the eyes of many enthusiasts as the 1954 concept came during an era when pretty much all sports cars in America were European imports. The Crosley Hotshot from 1949 doesn’t count because 44 cubic inches (724 cubic centimeters) and 26.5 horsepower is very far from sporty.

You also have to consider how many green dollar bills the seller is asking for a vehicle that may or may not hold its value in the future. A similar ‘Vette was auctioned by Mecum six years ago in Portland, and despite the supercharged engine with 545 horsepower on deck and the Lamborghini-style scissor doors, a high bid of $60,000 wasn’t enough to meet the reserve.
