Drag racer David Measell was in for a wild ride during last weekend’s Outlaw Drag Radial event at South Georgia Motorsports Park, when his monster of a Ford Mustang nearly flew over the safety wall.
Powered by more than 2,000 horses, which are pushed further by a healthy dose of nitrous, Measell’s fox body is no regular third-generation Mustang. We’re not really surprised that he ran about 100 feet on the car’s rear bumper, but we’re glad he managed to get back on the track before hitting the side wall.
The ‘Stang obviously has too much traction and too much power, Measell admitted after the incident that left him unharmed. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for the vehicle, which will spend its next few weeks in the repair shop. “It was rough, but we’ll fix it,” he said.
Measell’s Mustang is not the first fox body dragster we’ve seen flying around after a powerful launch. Last year, Chris Evans went through a similar experience while trying to qualify for the second round of an X275 radial tire showdown at Maryland International Raceway. We bet both Measell and Evans would be quite happy with a pair of wheelie bars attached to the rear bumpers of the cars.
