One of the best things about the first Mazda Miata is that it has pop-up headlights. However, that wasn't enough for one owner, who wanted round headlights like on his favorite 50s cars.
The MX-5 is not the first Japanese car we'd think of as a Lotus doppelganger. The Toyota MR-2 has that covered, with its Elan-like shape.

However, this Miata does a decent impersonation of the Elite. You probably never heard of that, so we'll quickly mention that it's a tiny 2-door coupe with a 1.2-liter over the front making between 75 and 105 hp. It doesn't sound like much, but it only weighed about 1,200 lbs.

As you probably guessed, the Miata had a little help crossdressing as a Lotus. Yes, this is the same "Pitcrew" body kit we featured last week. As people always say, there's a second first time for everything. What, they don't say that?

We've learned a few new things about the kit in the meantime. The front end conversion costs up to about $3,000, though it doesn't include the headlights and other accessories. Taking that into consideration, we're pretty pleased with the fact that the whole thing is for sale on Craigslist at just $8,500.

Everything on it is said to be new or looks to be in good condition. The engine is clean, the interior is all about that black leather and it obviously has new paint. We don't see a single spot of rust either, which is always good news.

The fake Lotus also comes with a black hardtop, a tan faux leather soft top, has new coilovers, fresh brakes, tires and everything you might need to change has been taken care of. Even the trunk is restored, so it basically comes down to if you think this shape is cool or you prefer a regular NA Miata front end.
