Usually I write only about the newest Bimmers on the block, trying to bring you the first reviews out there before they’re even written, if possible. This time, I thought about a change of pace.
This time, we’re looking at a review for a BMW E36 320i done by Simon Hill of Autos.ca. He’s the proud owner of this 1993 Bimmer that gathered no less than 237,430 km when the review was written and still counting.
His car has the emblematic M50 6-cylinder, 2-liter engine under the bonnet that powered hundreds or even thousands of Bimmers over the years in one form or another from 1991 to 2001.
The smoothness of that engine is addictive and it makes you forget that it doesn’t have a lot of power or torque compared to today’s standards. Even though his car took more than one hit over the years (himself confessing that there’s not an original panel left on the car anymore) the Black Pearl (as they nicknamed it) is still running, over 20 years later. Now that’s engineering.
