They say that money can't buy happiness. But then again, if you are crazy about cars happiness is all about being around them. Driving a normal vehicle is still fun, but it comes nowhere close to driving a sports car. Owning one of those will bring joy most of the time, but you're going to crave more. Different cars serve different purposes, but they also require a bigger financial commitment.
You'll sometimes hear people saying that "I'll never drive anything else except for a BMW". Most petrolheads will embrace the idea of having a diversified garage: throw in an American Muscle, a Japanese tuner car, and a European exotic.

But some would rather stick to one brand. If that brand happens to be Porsche, then you need to have a solid bank account. Building such a collection is going to be expensive, to say the least. You don't even have to include race cars to end up spending millions of dollars on less than 10 vehicles.

The question is if you'd have to settle for only five cars what would you go for? A Cayenne would make a nice daily, while a 718 Spyder would most likely keep your wife happy. With three more cars to go, a 918 Spyder or a Carrera GT would be the next logical step.

If you could only get one 911, that would be an insanely difficult decision. The modern GT2 RS is a formidable weapon, but an older Turbo model would be equally as fun. So, there's one more spot left to fill.

For the sake of diversity, you'd probably be looking at a 924, 928, or 944. The 924 and 944 are somewhat common in the grand scheme of things, while you don't get to see a 928 every day.

Even though Porsche built these cars between 1978 to 1995, a total of just over 61,000 units left the factory floor. Looking at the transaction history of the 928 on BaT, you'll notice a total of 527 listings over the past few years. The most expensive one so far is a 1994 928 GTS, which was sold earlier this year for $163,928.

The GTS has more power and is slightly more refined than the older S4, but you shouldn't jump to any conclusions yet. The 1991 model that we came across has had the same owner for the past 30+ years, and it looks like a genuine time capsule.

This isn't exactly a garage queen, with 39,000 miles (62,764 km) on the odometer. The 5.0-liter V8 was factory rated at 316 hp and 317 lb-ft (430 Nm) of torque. And that's not far off the performance figures of a 964 Turbo. Even so, these vehicles targeted slightly different customers given their nature.

The seller has provided hundreds of photos and even a few videos of the car, and the bidding war has already begun. With seven more days left until the auction is over, the current bid stands at $40,000. But we wouldn't be surprised if it reaches a six-figure value by the end of it all.
