Lamborghini paved the way for a new breed of high-performance sports cars with the Miura, which features a transverse V12 mounted behind the passenger compartment. Its wedge-shaped successor made the switch to a longitudinal V12, and that’s how supercars have been ever since.
A little under 2,000 examples have been produced in Sant’Agata Bolognese from 1974 through 1990, with Marcello Gandini of Bertone penning the original version of the raging bull. Honoring the 25th anniversary of Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini S.p.A., the Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary is especially desirable. Some peeps may find it a bit overstyled, but on the other hand, weren’t the 1980s all about being loud and gaudy?

Then employed by the Italian automaker, Horacio Pagani of Automobili Pagani fame styled this variant of the Countach. Mechanically similar to the 5000 QV, the 25th Anniversary stands out in the crowd with the help of enlarged and extended intake ducts in the side airboxes. Often hailed as the most refined iteration of the V12-engined supercar, the 25th Anniversary was offered between 1988 and 1990, only to be superseded by the Diablo.

Lamborghini produced a little more than 650 units of the breed. Chassis number ZA9CA05A9KLA12671 is heading to auction tomorrow in St. Moritz with only 12,484 kilometers (7,757 miles), which makes it hard to resist in the eyes of any collector. Offered by RM Sotheby's with Swiss registration papers, this car was delivered new to the United States even though it currently wears European-spec bumpers. First registered in July 1997 according to the Carfax report, the V12-engined land missile spent a few years on the East Coast prior to being registered in New Jersey in 2006.

Prior to its export to the Old Continent in October 2017, it spent time in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Texas. Fitted with a brand-new clutch in December 2018, the Swiss-registered Countach 25th Anniversary is presented in Rosso Siviglia over tan leather. Pictured on 15-inch OZ Racing forged alloys, this blast from the past is expected to fetch anything between 400,000 and 450,000 Swiss francs at auction. At current exchange rates, that’s $412,150 to $463,700 excluding the 12.5-percent buyer’s premium.
