A young man that recently got his own shop space was trusted by one of his friends with a 1989 BMW M3. Although the car was in good condition, it lacked that nice shine sporty vehicles usually have. And, when it comes to an oldie from Bavaria that’s equipped with proper wheels, it should be spotless. Here’s what he did to make it look like it just left the factory.
Although many of us would like to think that reconditioning a car and returning it to its former glory is a magical process, in reality, things couldn’t be more different. There’s a lot of work that’s put into turning a vehicle into a spotless-looking thing.
Aidan Templin worked approximately 75 hours on a 1989 BMW M3. That’s over three full days! He started with cleaning the interior and the engine bay but did not record this process. However, the proud shop owner made sure to have enough footage to make everyone think about taking their car to a similar business and getting a quote for a thorough clean.
The 20-minute-video published on YouTube and available down below shows just how much attention and patience someone must have when dealing with older vehicles that must look once again as they did over 30 years ago.
Templin starts with making sure the car’s well-lit. That’s how he identifies the scratches and the places which need polishing, or some extra care.
After the visual inspection is done, he continues with removing the parts that must be protected. The man starts polishing the car’s hood and makes sure he doesn’t miss a spot. The detailer then gets a microfiber pad and removes the excess or the residues.
But he’s also met with some issues. Watching him deal with a repainted part is a good lesson for us all – always make sure to choose the best paint possible. Otherwise, it might become a problem in the future.
You can watch the entire process unfolding in the video down below. It’s a good way to unwind and see what exactly happens when someone’s asked to remove scratches and imperfections. Detailing's not an easy job.
