You have movie cars, and then you have true legends. The 1974 Ford Falcon XB Interceptor, simply called Interceptor, is one of them – and arguably one of the most iconic movie cars in the world.
It is also the most famous Australian movie car. Featured in the first Mad Max film with Mel Gibson, the Pursuit Special or “the last of the V8 Interceptors” came back for the second installment with some modifications before going on to achieve international glory. To this day, the surviving Interceptor remains one of the most iconic vehicles.

This particular example isn’t the real deal, but it’s a very impressive, incredibly detailed, and most awesome tribute. The fact that it’s based on a true Australian Falcon XB makes it all the more amazing and increases its potential of being nabbed by a Mad Max fanatic.

Part of the Larry Carrell Collection, this 1974 Ford Falcon XB Interceptor is listed with Mecum for the Kissimmee event, which will take place between January 7 and 16, 2021. The initial estimate is between $15,000 and $30,000, which, sure enough, is a lot of money in this economy but amounts to peanuts compared to the real thing. That one was estimated at $5 million in February this year.

The tribute was bought in Australia and shipped to the U.S., where it underwent extensive modifications to honor the Mad Max Interceptor. It’s powered by a 351-ci (5.7-liter) V8 engine with customized valve covers meant to look like overhead cams and stands out thanks to a functional Weiand blower peeking out of the hood. Transmission is a 4-speed manual. Inside, there’s a perpendicular jump seat built into the passenger door, on the left side, since the car is right-hand drive.

An overhead console, a blue police light, an otherwise stripped interior, and ripped upholstery complete the look of an Interceptor worthy of the name. Mecum says it would even make for “a tempting daily driver” because “who would dare cut this thing off?”

Indeed, who would.
