Peter Williams Motorcycles announces they will be building no less than 25 JPN replicas and the bikes will be available soon.
Peter Williams won the Isle of Man TT on his John Player Norton back in 1973,and the machinery became famous as an icon of classic British road racing bikes. The John Player Norton was revolutionary back in the day as it boasted a monocoque chassis, pretty much the same as the one Ducati uses nowadays, function-wise.
The original chassis needed a whopping 12 man-weeks for manufacturing one unit, but today's technology changes everything. Just like the old bike, the replica will have stainless steel chassis which reproduces the original one down to minute details.
The new John Player Norton will be powered by a 750cc Norton Commando twin engine with Mick Hemmings' hot-rodding magic in it. There was no launch date and no price was named, but we don't expect anything cheap.
And just to get a better picture of what "replica" means today, here's a statement on the Peter Williams Motorcycles website: "If tooling or drawings were not available then, thanks to Mike Braid and the National Motorcycle Museum, two of the original bikes have been made available for reference and digitisation using a FARO arm. Original parts have been reverse engineered in CAD to create new items to the correct specification under Peter’s watchful eye.”
