The Ford Mustang came out of the gates super-strong, offering a variety of engines and options to attract customers. The 1st-generation model gave us the Fastback and many TV icons like Bullitt and Eleanor. However, people tend to forget what followed.
The 70s were a time of tie-dye and brotherly love. However, partly due to the environmental activism at the time, Ford kind of messed up the Mustang. It lost its distinctive facial features for 1971, became larger but not necessarily more powerful.

Perhaps it's not ugly, but the Mustang of that era is not a styling icon. The notable upsides to the increased size were the larger Boss 351 engine and the Cobra Jet V8 of the Mustang Mach 1.

Sales of Mustangs were slowing down every year, and Ford felt besieged by the government's emissions and safety regulations. The "fat" series might have been far better received in the 60s, when boxy designs with big engines were cool.

Ironically, at the same time, Chevy was making one of its best designs ever. The so-called Split Bumper Camaro is one of our favorites. The 1973 Camaro Z28 was every bit the match for the Mach 1 in the performance department.

Ford has just begun work on a brand new Mustang Mach 1, which is probably going to be the last version for the current generation. It's going to be the pinnacle of naturally aspirated V8 performance on the track, and it got us thinking about what can be done with a 1971-1973 Mach 1 'Stang.

Thankfully, the Czech rendering artist Rostislav Prokop thought about that already and created an epic body kit for the classic. It's a widebody makeover that consists of the usual blown-out fenders, a deep chin spoiler, side skirts, and a diffuser. We've sampled it in a variety of colors, but the most eye-catching one is red.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
