1973 Chevrolet Dually Camper Special Goes Cheap, Hopes to Impress

There are many high profile custom pickups out there, each with a unique set of features to make owners confident the price they are asking is the right one. It’s not entirely clear and not always obvious how the price for a build is set, but often times we end up with very valuable machines being sold for pennies, or ones that are far from perfect going for small fortunes.

We’re not sure what category this particular one is part of. Here is a pickup from the glory days of the C/K family, sporting a short wheelbase and subsequently a short bed at the rear, while also making use of dual wheels out back.

The truck was restored no more than 3,200 miles (5,150 km) ago and made to look particularly appealing in its black over black(ish) overalls. The thing is almost elegant in its retro design but also makes use of modern-day creature comforts the likes of a Kenwood sound system with Bluetooth and SiriusXM satellite capability.

Packing a 5.7-liter V8 under the hood and automatic transmission to go with it, the Camper Special, as it's titled, seems more than capable of making full use of the dual fuel tanks and 10,000 pounds (4,536 kg) gross vehicle weight for whatever task the owner has to throw at it. Also, the wood and stainless steel bed out back seems more than ready to receive whatever cargo.

The price of the entire package is the only thing that doesn't seem to fit with everything else, especially when compared to what else one can find out there.

$19,500 is how much the selling dealer is asking for it, and that should land one of two types of customers: either people looking to use it as a workhorse or those with ideas of taking it one step further down the custom path.
