Although the Blue Oval is just about ready to finally get the 2021 Bronco out the Michigan Assembly Plant (MAP) gates and into dealerships nationwide, that doesn’t mean its classic forebear should be neglected. Especially when you can find a unit that’s ready and rock-crawling willing because all the customizations are already done.
Although Ford has tremendously expanded the appeal of its sixth-generation 2021 Bronco with the addition of the Bronco Sport and 4-Door models, the reality is that part of the fanbase still isn’t going to be satisfied until there’s a V8 under the hood.
Solutions exist for the reinvented Bronco in that department from the loving aftermarket world. Still, the reality is that you first have to get your hands on a Bronco example before performing the swap. With a little bit of luck, you can also get a classic first-generation example born in 1972 that has already been through a V8 swap.
Better yet, this unit also comes with a lovely blue repaint that provides a great contrast to the removable black hardtop and the decidedly obvious 20-inch XD wheels. Even the interior uses the same black and blue mix for the vinyl upholstery. Other highlights include the Sidewinder shifter, Alpine touchscreen infotainment system, or the aftermarket subwoofer and speaker assembly.
Don’t jump inside just yet, though, because the exterior details include a neat set of black fender flares, a Smittybilt winch, the swing-out rear tire carrier, or aftermarket front lights. Even the hood was changed, and the new owner will receive a set of tubular metal doors and an extra pair of vinyl ones.
Even more importantly, the ‘72 Bronco hides an interesting V8 secret under the hood. Although many would expect something more along the line of a Coyote swap, this Blue Oval actually fraternized with the enemy and sports a General Motors built 5.3-liter Vortec V8 mill.
The auction on Bring a Trailer is set to continue for a few more days from now but this lifted classic SUV might turn out to be a steal if the highest bid remains at the current value (at the time of writing) of just $24,250.
