1970 Chevy Chevelle SS Goes Stealthily Overboard With ProCharged LS and 800 WHP

Although produced for a relatively short period (1963 - 1977) and spanning just three generations, the Chevelle remains one of the most successful nameplates for the Chevrolet brand. It’s not just because of the classic car attire, but also thanks to the modern restomod attraction.

One proper example to support the case comes from the latest video (embedded below) presented by the AutotopiaLA channel on YouTube. It’s a 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS, which makes the “Super Sport” moniker proud in more ways than ever imagined when it rolled off the assembly line some 50 years ago.

According to the owner, although the SS was already restored by the time he came into its possession, the project needed a complete reshape according to his personal wishes. And we have to say the restomod build turned out quite tasteful – witness the clean exterior lines and the neat details.

We like the dark cherry-crimson shade that’s nicely contrasted by the black lines and chrome trimming, and host Shawn quickly gets to discuss everything as the hood gets popped to reveal the “monster” within.

It’s a fully built LS motor that got strapped to a big ProCharger kit in order “to handle around 1,500 horsepower,” although it currently sports a “safe tune” of a mere 800 whp! We’ll let you dwell on that figure for a moment, and then move on to the rest of the chapters: the body, the chassis, the fully adjustable coilover suspension, the Wilwood brakes, and more.

Noticeable entries for the personal taste of the owner include the 20-inch Forgiato wheels, the “BEEN 100” license plate (Shawn jokes about it at the 4-minute mark), as well as the entire interior (4:25). The owner went for an original atmosphere, but there are quite a few personal touches in there as well – the modern audio that’s made to resemble the old one, the Recaro seats, or the Dakota Digital gauges, and the steering wheel.

Anyways, it’s high time for a ride (kicking off at the 5:20 mark) when Shawn muses about the ProCharger sound in between episodes of “dude it is such intense acceleration, I frickin’ love it...” Then there’s the discussion about the Chevelle’s line lock from the 8-minute mark, which of course then makes way for a burnout.
