Rust is car cancer, but when left abandoned in a barn, there are other awful things that could happen to a cool model like the 1970 Buick Skylark.
The GS model right here, for example, has been trying to resist the attacks of mold, age, and even mice, the current owner that’s now trying to sell it explains.
Despite being a complete car, this 1970 Buick Skylark GS obviously needs restoration and does not run after spending the last 37 years in a barn. However, it comes with an appealing mix of pros and cons, so it could become a great project car after all.
It’s only at the second owner after being purchased from a dealer’s lot back in 1976, and it comes with a 350ci (5.7-liter) V8 engine that generates 315 horsepower. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission.
“I swapped out the stock front drum brakes for discs back in the day, I also added the GS hood, matching air cleaner and grill. The AC system was working when I parked it. You also get the factory tilt wheel, factory clock and factory rally wheels. Trim rings and center caps are all there,” the owner explains in the ad posted on Craigslist.
The good part is that there’s no rust on the exterior, although a repaint might be needed. The owner says they already repainted the car once, but you may want to do it again for an improved look, and you’ll probably want to retain the original white vinyl roof.
The bad part is that the car already has 162,000 miles (260,713 kilometers) on the clock, so it’s not really the low mileage that you expected it to be.
Needless to say, this Buick is still worth a look, especially given it’s a ’70 model that’s rather cheap. The owner expects to get $4,500 for it.
