1969 Plymouth Barracuda Blowfish to Set New Land Speed Record

What we have in front of us is a one of a kind 1969 Plymouth Barracuda Blowfish which has received some “minor” touches from Rad Rods. The Baracuda was turned into a fierce speed monster. The gear head who has workedhis magic on the Plymouth is none other than Troy Trepanier of Rat Rods.

The car has been specially modified to set a new land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Bed this year, and was given the name Blowfish due to its rounded aerodynamic body. The hot rod is a serious rocket and stands a very good chance of being the next land speed record holder in the days to come. The rocket Plymouth is fitted with a turbo-charged, front-mounted 392ci P5 Precision Dodge engine, which revs up to 8,000rpm.

The soul of this speeding beast was tuned with a SEFI ECU from Big Stuff 3 which gives the car an extra 1,400 hp and a drag coefficient of 2.1 which the team hopes will be enough to brake the 300mph(approx. 482km/h) mark. Rad Rods in collaboration with Strange Engineering has created a new 9” gear ratio of 2.3:1 which gives the car a rev range of 8,000rpm.

The new transmission helps the team to overcome its overdrive issues while providing the car with a 5th gear ratio. Thus, allowing the car to hit 320mph(approx.514km/h) in the 5th gear at 8500rpm which is a plus considering the 9500 rpm it took the team to reach 317mph(approx. 510 km/h) last year.
