Carroll Shelby's Cobras have dominated both competitions and the hearts of automotive enthusiasts like few cars before or after them. Widely regarded as one of the best impersonations of a muscle machine, the series had its own pinnacles – such as the 427 Cobras.
Of course, the Cobra has turned into a deeply appreciated collector’s item, with a few examples rising to ample (monetary) fame. We could name a couple directly from memory – such as the close-to $14 million Cobra CSX 2000 or the recently acquired CSX3178 ($5.94 million), which was once owned by none other than Carroll Shelby himself.

This Ivy Green 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 belongs to the same coveted CSX 3000 series, bearing the 3281 marker and signaling that it’s up for grabs for a bucket load of cash from Earth Motor Cars. In case you’re familiar with the Cobra 427 price tags, you won’t be surprised; if not, grab a chair and sit down before checking up the listing.

For the exact sum of $1,485,400, the dealer is presenting to the public a Cobra 427 unit that was delivered to its first owner back in September 1966 through a Blue Oval dealer located in Michigan. At the time, it set back the buyer a mere $6,730.69 (which is just $54k in 2021 value!) and was packing a 428-cu in (7.0-liter) Police Interceptor big-block V8 under the hood.

The fit and finish were the same as it is now, though – a striking green with a black interior. It was during its third ownership tenure this Cobra traded its original engine for a classic 427 as it came in the possession of a Cobra Performance employee who also repainted the car in a red shade and performed a host of other modifications.

Because we see it sporting Ivy Green paint with a black interior once more, it’s clear that wasn’t the end of the story for CSX3281. After being traded a few more times, the car entered the Otis Chandler Collection back in 1987 and only left it a couple of decades later.

According to the description provided by the dealer, Fresh Motorcars International was the outlet responsible for the most recent restoration. It was professionally done to “concours level” and has only had test miles inscribed on the odometer ever since. This was done to carefully safeguard major attraction points such as the 427 engine, four-speed manual, Sunburst-like wheels, or the wood-rimmed steering wheel.
