The 1960s decade has been without a doubt one of the most forward-thinking ages of the last century. With the horrors of World War II still fresh in their minds, the people of that era set out to envision a better future for us all, in pretty much all fields of human activity.
For the automotive world, the 1960s are the years when most of the nameplates that shaped the subsequent decades came to be. New car types were created, priorities shifted, and historic motorsport programs came to light.

For some brands, such as Oldsmobile, the 1960s and the 1970s were its glory years. These were the times of the Starfire, Toronado, or Cutlass - after that, we were given things like the Aurora or Alero, until the brand finally sank out of the industry in 2004.

During the company's life, one of the longer-lasting nameplates of Oldsmobile was the 88. Introduced in 1949, the 88 family stuck around for half a century, and of course the highlight of its existence were the 1960s.

By the time the decade started, the 88 was already in its fifth generation, and had entered the market with an all new body and a brand new chassis. Rocket or Skyrocket V8s sat under the hood, delivering power going to as much as 325 hp. They were impressive machines, and could take on without major issues the heavyweights of that time.

Finding an 88 today is not difficult, but finding the right one might prove to be so. There are countless restorations and even custom builds out there, but few have remained in their original state and can be found on the open market.

If you are looking for such a car, the 1966 Oldsmobile 88 we have here might be just the thing. Being of a Delta variety, it packs an unrestored 425ci (7.0-liter) V8 sitting in an unrestored body, and is just begging to be taken on for a summer rebuild project in a garage somewhere.
