We are history in the making, even if some of us may not realize or may even not accept that. We've never been so well linked to our past like we are in this age, and for some, this is a major source of joy, as they have discovered a time-travel method.
This 1965 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide, formerly a police bike, was simply rotting away under a thick layer of rust when owner and bike mechanic Larry Settle of Harbor City, CA bought it with a distant restoration plan in mind.

Almost 15 years passed until this magnificent and majestic bike has been restored back to its glorious shape, even if in a civilian version. As Larry himself told Chris K at Motorcycleart, the bike was in a truly terrible shape on the outside, and all his efforts to salvage as much as possible from the original parts were in vain.

As the bike had been left for years in a row to rot under a tree and the open sky, gradually sinking into the ground, it's a small surprise that all the metal sheet components had to be replaced, as there was nothing more to save. The engine and gearbox on the other hands, despite their pretty beat up condition, had been used very little, so it was down to shaking off the rust and making them shine again.

Finally, the original 3.5 gal (13.2 L) fuel tank was replaced with a 5 gal (18,9) one. The speedometer still reads BHPD, leading to a wild guess that this Electra Glide could have belonged to the Beverly Hills Police Department. All in all, a loud cheer to Larry Settle for this awesome save.
