The C2 iteration of “America’s Sports Car” was born way back in 1962 and only lived through the 1963 to 1967 model years to make sure the original Sting Ray will forever remain embedded in popular car culture. As such, whenever one of these pops up for sale, we’re positively intrigued.
Unfortunately, it seems that we used the word positive without thinking twice about what lies ahead of us in the gallery. It’s a 1965 Corvette Sting Ray all right, but it can easily be the epitome of barn finds considering the shown level of decay.
As such, the glorious head-turning lines of the second generation are barely seen beneath all the multi-colored rust. Luckily, the unit dwelling here on consignment from eBay user sabegizz is painted red, so the different shades of rust are sometimes covered by the matching hue.
According to the description, we’re dealing here with a true barn find as the Chevy was previously owned by a New Jersey fan that left it forsaken for no less than 35 years in a garage. Now it has changed hands for around one year and has found a new home in Florida.
At least we know the mild climate isn’t going to wreck any more havoc to the body and we go on to put into question the claim that we’re dealing with something that is in a very drivable condition. Granted, there’s a video of the 327ci engine being started and running quite balanced. Still, we have to wonder if the Corvette really does come out of hiding since the person taking the footage doesn’t use the accelerator pedal to rev up the small-block V8.
Anyways, we advise proceeding with extreme caution on this one because all the claims that even the four-speed manual transmission shifts fine and the frame / cage being in great shape seem a bit stretched from reality. And so might be the fixed asking price of $41,000, as well.
