Once in a while, the American hotrod scene throws an oddball at us that's so cool we have to share it with you guys. This is one of the coolest but most little known projects from last year's SEMA show, a 1964 International Loadstar classic semi tractor that's been turned into hotrod.
A company called HRR put this project together in just over a month. They didn't just give it a new coat of paint. The chassis was completely overhauled and now features both the front and the rear suspension from a C6 Chevy Corvette.
The full name of this truck, back in the day, was the International Harvester-Loadstar CO 1700, but very few people know about this old timer. Riding low, the custom made vehicle rolls on 20x14-inch front and 20x16-inch rear alloy wheels built by Boyd Coddington. Very few people talk about Boyd's cool wheel designs in the era of spinners and Forgiatos, but we still think the Coddington shop makes some of the best alloys around.
Under the bonnet is a new LS3 GM crate engine with twin turbos and Microtech fuel injection system. We don't know how much power it puts down, but it has to be at least about 800 to 1,000 horsepower, delivered to the back via a T56 trans axle.
This being 2014, the classic candy-apple tangerine paint has been paired up with a bit of brushed aluminum and a dashboard made from carbon fiber. With a massive wing and gigantic turbos sticking out, the best way to describe the back is: perverse!
