From club racing to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Chevrolet Corvette has seen plenty of racing action throughout the ages. Sold new to a gentleman in California, this particular B production racecar was restored to vintage specifications as per the SCCA GSR rulebook from 1967.
After the no-expense-spared restoration, serial number 40837S110668 was put through its paces in the HMSA, CSRG, and SVRA events up until 2019. Currently owned by Bruce Trenery of Fantasy Junction, the vehicle is currently rocking a 327 engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission.
Built in 2009 to motorsport specifications, the small-block V8 has been upgraded in 2019 with pretty serious goodies like the Isky Red Zone lifter set, valves spring set, and titanium valves. The 5.4-liter motor is also boasting Gapless rings for the JC pistons, new cylinder heads, and Cometic head gaskets. Capable of mid-to-high 400 horsepower on the dyno, the punchy engine “tends to run hot and thus will need to be freshened.”
Offered by Fantasy Junction for $65k, the Monterey Wine Country winner and 24 Hours of Daytona participant is fitted with original-type front suspension and disc brakes all around. Finished in blue over a black interior, the fixed-head coupe shows a few cracks in the paint as well as sink marks.
The power-bulge hood was reportedly installed under previous ownership when the ‘Vette was hiding a 427 in the engine bay, but even with a 327, the flat-black side pipes deliver a menacing sound even at idle. Also equipped with American Racing magnesium wheels in yellow, the car is currently running Goodyear Blue Streak racing tires and 3:90 gearing. The selling vendor also offers a 3:08 ring and pinion, “which is perfectly suited for running at Daytona up to 160 miles per hour (257 kilometers per hour).”
In addition to the 1964 Corvette and over 30 years of documented history, the sale includes a spare set of magnesium wheels, SCCA logbooks dating back to 1990, and several parts that were removed from the vehicle when it was converted for racing, including the original driver’s seat.
