The only other legendary off-roader that Mercedes Benz has got under its belt besides the G-Class is the Unimog. They were originally designed to be used as agricultural vehicles. The first ones were equipped with a mounting bracket in front and a hitch in the rear.
In 1955, production started on the first Unimog 404 S, their main customer being the Federal West German army, which was re-arming for the war that never came with the Russia. They needed its low gearing and chunky tires to get to the more inhospitable military bases.
The 404 S was a very popular Unimog, and 64,242 were produced between 1955 and 1980. This one was built in 1963 and is supposed to be rust-free. It’s currently sitting in Broadalbin, New York and is looking for a new owner. Yours if you feel like bidding for it on eBay!
