The brainchild of Bill Mitchell, the Chevrolet Corvette Split Window is a special breed of American-made sports car. Offered for just one model year (1963), it has become one of the most valuable cars on the market since its launch. And this is obvious just by looking at how much someone spent for the one featured in the gallery below.
Forced by circumstances, auction house Barrett-Jackson, one of the largest in America, was forced earlier this year to cancel one of its events and move the whole thing online. The move apparently worked, as some impressive figures were achieved this way.

The most expensive car on the lot was the Corvette, which went for $357,500, more than $150k above the price of the 1941 Lincoln Zephyr runner up. There was only one car more expensive than the Corvette, Dale Earnhardt’s No. 3 Chevrolet, but that was sold for charity, which might have counted for something in setting the final price.

Back to the Split Window, the car is no longer in the same condition as it was when it left the factory doors, naturally. A full rebuild accompanied by the required tuning conducted by Jeff Hayes Customs were completed in February 2019.

The car is painted silvery-white on the outside and rides on staggered wheels 18-inch front and 20-inch rear, but it is the interior that comes as a true spectacle. Wrapped in red all around, it is embellished by the chrome sprinkled on various elements to make quite the impression.

Under the hood, the Corvette has been gifted with a LS3 engine, mated to an automatic overdrive transmission. The engine’s output has been rated at 540 hp.

In all, the Barrett-Jackson online auction held earlier this May managed to raise a total of $3.79 million. The Corvette alone, it seems, accounted for nearly 10 percent of that amount.
