Nova, however, was adopted as the name of the entire series in 1968 when Chevrolet officially dropped the Chevy II moniker with the debut of the third generation.

The first Nova was offered in three different versions called 100 Series, 300 Series, and 400 Series, yet Chevrolet also planned to sell a 200 Series; however, the latter was abandoned quickly after the launch. The first-generation Nova was manufactured until 1965 and was available with five different engines, including two V8s – 283 and 327.

The Nova you’re looking at here is indeed powered by a 283-ci (4.6-liter) unit, but what you need to know is this isn’t the engine that Chevrolet installed back in 1962 when it built the car.

In fact, this is an upgrade the Chevy received after changing owners and moving from Georgia to Rochester, NY, with the buyer converting it into a hot rod by installing a small-block engine and a Muncie 4-speed transmission. The car ended up parked in a garage, after which it was purchased by someone else who took proper care of it.

The suspension and the engine have been rebuilt, new brakes and clutch have been installed, and the car was babied to look just like you see it today in the photo gallery here. The current owner says the paint is old and shows its age, but other than that, the Nova runs and drives nicely, with only small fixes required here and there. There’s no rust on this Nova, so whoever buys this car should be able to bring it back to tip-top shape quite easily.

The Nova is listed on eBay with a $17,500 Buy It Now price, but on the other hand, other deals are also accepted, and you can use the “Make Offer” button to get in touch with the seller.

The car is currently located in Scottsville, New York.
