Back in 1961, Chevrolet officially unveiled the third-generation Impala, and the biggest change was the switch to the GM B platform, which itself allowed for a boxier look overall. It was also the year when the GM brand launched the Super Sport, or SS, option for the Impala.
The new look of the Impala still survives on the example we have here, which according to the owner, has been kept in a garage for many years.
While we’re not being provided with too many specifics on this one, we can only assume the conditions in that garage have been far from perfect, as the rust has clearly taken its toll on this Impala.
In fact, this is one big concern for whoever buys the car, as it comes with a large amount of rust in certain areas, and this might require a full replacement or several large patches. The floors, for example, come with big holes on both the driver’s and the passenger’s side, and judging from the photos included in the listing, the trunk would need some attention too.
The body doesn’t necessarily come in its best condition, and we’re not sure how much of the sheet metal is still original. The owner, however, says this Impala is “an original,” so the buyer should reach out to them for additional info on this.
The interior looks like it’d need some help too, and the seats, in particular, would require major fixes.
As for the engine, it’s said to be the original 283 V8 unit that was installed by Chevrolet when it built the car, with the owner explaining it is “sitting on the mounts and needs to be bolted in and wired up.” Most likely, this means it starts, though again, additional info would certainly come in handy.
The Impala is up for auction on eBay from seller geno59, and the starting bid is a little high at $6,500.
