1957 Chevrolet Cameo Shares More Than a Fiberglass Connection With the Corvette

Despite selling in relatively low numbers, the Chevrolet Cameo pickup (part of the Task Force Series) quickly opened up the market for other stylish trucks to follow – so the current Silverado High Country should give ample thanks to its forebearer. No worries, though, because this example has other aspirations.

What we’re dealing here is a clear case of automotive DID, aka dissociative identity disorder - or multiple personality disorder as it was commonly referred to in the past. This is clearly a vintage Chevrolet pickup truck of the stylish Cameo family, but it’s been customized with so many Corvette parts it’s now definitely a different personality altogether...

It's clear, the 1957 Chevy Cameo might do wonders for the Corvette fan that needs to do a lot of stylish hauling on a daily basis... Well, joke aside, this pickup truck that’s just about ready to go under the hammer during Mecum Auction’s upcoming Las Vegas event (November 13th and 14th) is clearly going to make a splash at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

We just love how pickup truck restomods are slowly – but steadily – taking the mainstream stage as of late, and this example has a lot of positive aspects going for it. Chief among them, the stylish looks of the late 1950s combined with the influx of modern Corvette parts.

There’s so many of them we actually don’t know where to start – so we’ll dive just right in by announcing that its main Black theme is lifted from a Corvette and combined with some neat White Gold Pearl details. It bodes well with the numerous chrome accents, as well as the 20-inch set of Foose Nitrous polished alloys (with 1955 Corvette “horn button” center caps, of course).

Underneath the fiberglass (bed sides and fenders are original GM factory pieces, just like it was the case with early Corvettes) there’s even more of the company’s sports car. We’re talking about the Flatout Engineering C4 Corvette four-wheel aluminum independent suspension, the Baer C5 Corvette power brake system, or the LS3 Corvette crate engine that’s good for 430 hp.

And all those ponies will be put to great use, because this Cameo probably also performs akin to a ‘Vette considering all the enhancements – from the Eaton TrueTrac limited slip differential to the 4L65E automatic transmission and Chevrolet Performance SuperMatic torque converter.

And just don’t get us started on the interior – it features both classic and modern touches, this time from different parts of the GM domain as well (like the 1960s Tuxedo Cadillac upholstery) to compliment the Corvette theme – check out that branded carbon fiber and aluminum steering wheel!
