Tow trucks are incredible machines, but most of the time they are so utilitarian in design that they are not known to be head turners. That’s not the case with the rat rod 1950 Chevrolet 3600 we have in the adjacent photo gallery.
Part of Chevy’s Advanced Design series introduced by the American carmaker, the remade ¾ ton truck simply looks stunning, a blend of pure iron and custom rat rod looks. Wrapped in an orange paint with just enough amount of wear and tear to make it noble, the truck looks both mean and ready to perform whatever heavy-duty hauling its owner demands it to do.

The truck is of course customized, and that means the changes made to it are not limited to the paint that wraps most of the machine.

At the front, the most notable element is the custom low-rider bumper, sitting in front of the chromed grille of the truck. The tow body at the rear seems to have all the needed hardware for towing duties, but also features a vintage 7Up cooler, and a set of vintage jerry cans.

A host of mechanical upgrades make the tow truck a real road monster: the suspension, a custom one, comes with adjustable airbags, there’s power steering, and power front brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The entire build rides on 15- and 16-inch wheels.

The interior features a single vinyl bench sitting in front of a dashboard equipped with Dolphin gauges and air conditioning vents. The more modern touch is the fitting of a Sony CD player.

Under the long, bulging hood, the truck hides a 350ci (5.7-liter) V8 of Chevrolet make, linked to a 4-speed automatic transmission and capable of developing 290 horsepower.

The Chevy 3600 tow truck is currently for sale, with an asking price to match the incredible looks and advertised performance: $37,900.
