The legendary 1938 Bugatti is also the fantastic beauty who won last year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy. Laurent’s passion for beautiful classic cars has often been reflected in his creations, as details from the car in question have already appeared in past watch and furniture collections.

The Automotive Chronograph has its design inspired from the actual dashboard of the 1938 Bugatti, as the timepiece reveals the handmade wooden dial ring, that gently sits between the tachymeter scale and center of the face. The face is made out of elm burl wood, the same material as the interior trim of the famous car’s cockpit.

Each of the timepiece has only veneers with the right concentration of knots and grains, that were individually selected for each watch.

To be shown next year

Reports are Ralph Lauren partnered with Jaeger-LeCoultre to create a self-winding caliber movement which runs in 39 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a 65-hour power reserve. The watch will be shown at the Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie in January, next year, so the price is yet to be announced.

The billionaire fashion designer has gathered quite a famous collection of beautiful rare automobiles. Reports are his collection contains around 100 cars, including a 1930 Mercedes-Benz Count Trossi SSK known as “The Black Prince” among many others.
