1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Spider Up for Auction

The forthcoming Amelia Island event by RM Auctions next month will feature the sale of one of the greatest prewar sports cars in the collector car market today. The vehicle in question is a rare 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport example, estimated to fetch between $1,100,000-$1,500,000.

Featuring a lightweight Zagato bodywork, the vehicle is fitted with a 85 bhp, 1,752 cc supercharged DOHC inline six-cylinder engine, four-speed manual gearbox, solid front and live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel drum brakes.

The prior owner has participated in the Colorado Grand 1,000-mile driving event, where the car went the entire distance without any issues whatsoever.

In 1985, the car participated in the classic-car festivities in Monterey, California, first by participating in the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca, where it was driven by America’s Grand Prix World Champion, Phil Hill, who finished in fourth place overall.

Next, it was displayed on the show field at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Art Valdez acquired the car from Brooks in 1986 and completed three successful Mille Miglia Storicas with it, each time without issue. It was also shown at the 1998 edition of the Concorso Italiano.

“Offered “on the button” and perfectly sorted, it is ready for a fourth Mille Miglia entry and will certainly continue to exemplify the mystique of the 6C 1750, with its stunning beauty and immensely satisfying driving dynamics,” a statement from R Auctions reads.

Alfa Romeo built a total of 2,579 1750s from 1929 through 1933. Of those, very few were supercharged “GS” examples.
