It’s a pretty safe bet to say Mazda’s CX-5 crossover is one of the most popular vehicles in the Japanese automaker’s current lineup. Starting this very month, British fans will be getting the upgraded, 2021MY version of the SUV, and the automaker is giving us the rundown on the enhancements.
Although it doesn’t compare to the potent 2021 Mazda CX-30 that last year received a 250-hp gift from the carmaker’s U.S. subsidiary, the larger CX-5 still arrives on the UK market with a newly added flagship engine option.
The company announced the introduction of the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine with 194 PS (191 hp) to the 2021 Mazda CX-5 UK family for the first time ever. Going for the 2.0-liter version of the Skyactiv-G range will give buyers a slightly less powered, 165 PS (163 hp) crossover, but that also means customers can choose the newly added CX-5 Kuro limited series model.
These are just two options from the expansive UK lineup, as Mazda promotes the 2021 CX-5 as having no fewer than 18 models across the range. That means consumers can select gasoline or diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions, front-wheel drive, and Mazda’s i-Activ AWD system.
Although the choice is great, the company hasn’t revealed the pricing details in the press release. Still, since the 2021 CX-5 is already available for ordering, we fiddled around with the online configurator tool and found out the base SE-L can be had from £28,830 (which is about $39,365 at the current exchange rates).
The flagship Skyactiv-G engine is only available with the top GT Sport trim and the 191 hp comes with an “on the road” price of at least £36,860 (a little over $50k). On the other hand, future customers might find the CX-5 Kuro special edition just as enticing, and for less money - £29,630 (a tad over $40k) with the manual transmission or £31,230 ($42,653) with the auto box.
Better hurry, though, because it’s limited to just 750 units. It comes with a host of unique touches, two colors (Soul Red Crystal Metallic or Polymetal Grey Metallic), 19-inch black alloys, and a raft of interior enhancements.
