About one week ago, we brought you the tuning battle for the world's fastest dual-clutch Lamborghini Huracan. While the pace was set by Underground Racing, with an 8.6s quarter mile run, Heffner Performance swiftly replied with an 8.3s shenanigan, thus grabbing the title.
Underground Racing is now taking back its trophy and this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. After all, the tuner did announce it had joined forces with Dodson Motorsports for a line of billet clutches that would be exclusive to its brand.
Well, those clutches delivered on the promise, allowing the Underground crew to turn up the boost by quite a lot. On the last attempts, we estimated their twin-turbo Huracan was making around 1,250 hp, but this time around things have jumped to a whopping 1,800 hp.
The Raging Bull on steroids obviously had to be taken to the drag strip in order to prove its newfound resources and the Huracan did not disappoint. UR1, to use the machine's nickname, has pulled a 7.8s 1,320 feet run at 187 mph, thus setting a new record (and by quite a margin).
"With the newly added 2R power level and already putting down a great 60-foot time the Underground Racing DCT Lamborghini Huracan was ready for the track. Keep in mind we are only using a 19" Nitto drag radial. After a few adjustments to dial in the launch with the bigger turbos we were ready. Our best pass of the day was 7.8 at 187 mph," the aftermarket developer explains.
Interestingly enough, Underground Racing warned us to be prepared for even sweeter times, with the company working on something called the X Version DCT.
This promise is even more surprising when we take into account the fact that, with the new DCT setup, the UR1 is getting closer and closer to the kind of performance delivered by UR2, the developer's most potent Huracan. Delivering over 2,300 hp, the UR2 uses a sequential gearbox, as most racecars out there, simply because the dual-clutch setup can't handle that much power.
Why is the DCT so important? Well, unlike the sequential setup, this doesn't kill a vehicle's streetability factor. Do you need, say, 2000 horses on the street? We're not here to answer such questions, but we'll invite you to watch the 1,800-pony Huracan devouring the Rockingham Dragway below.
