The Guinness Book of Records has just homologated a new record for the fastest wheelie on a motorcycle… on ice. The new record belongs to Swedish rider Robert Gull, who was clocked at 183.8 km/h (114.2 mph) over 100 meters (330 ft) on March 16, this year. Gull’s performance shattered the previous 176.2 km/h (109.5 mph) Ryan Suchanek had set in 2013.
Gull’s chilling performance took place in northern Sweden, on the frozen surface of lake Kakel in Arjeplog. He rode a stock Honda CBR1000RR, with the only modifications from the standard dealership trim being race fairings for improved aerodynamics, and special-design Dunlop tires engineered for riding on ice, equipped with power studs from the Swedish supplier Best-Grip.

Three runs, all beating the previous record

Robert Gull, 23, had three attempts, and all of them beat the previous record, the Guinness Book of Records mentions. The official speed was the best run of the three attempts. According to Gull’s own Youtube channel, he plans more interesting videos this winter, but no info on what his plans are has been offered.

The rider also mentions that the more he rode on the same tracks, the more difficult his task became, because of the ice surface deteriorating under the extreme aggression of the studs. The frozen surface started to be less grippy even for the special studs, and he felt like he was no longer in total control of the ride, with the bike sort of choosing its own way.

However, he adds that the most difficult part of the stunt was landing the front wheel, each time being a really scary experience he’s glad to have pulled through. Wonder how crazy a meeting between Robert Gull and Jorian Ponomareff would be, with these two ice kings showing the world what cool actually means. If you catch my drift…
