From rallying beasts to car meet heroes, we've come across plenty of Toyota Celicas over the years, but none of them was as extreme as the drag strip-confined machine we're here to show you.
Taking part in Pro Mod drag racing competitions, this Celica doesn't have too much in common with the contraption that left the Toyota factory under the same name. Most of the credit for the awesomeness of the build obviously goes to the engine.

We're dealing with the infamous Toyota 2JZ engine, with the 3.2-liter unit seen here having been pushed all the way to 1,800 hp. With the help of a monster turbine (read: 98mm), this straight six delivers enough punch to turn this Celica into a rising star.

To be more precise, the Toyota recently had its shakedown at the Orlando Speed World Dragway. Run by the Blue Destiny Racing Team, the Toyota managed to deliver respectable quarter-mile times, with the machine completing the 1,320 feet sprint in 6.28s at 223 mph.

While this is a new personal record for the team, they're not willing to stop here and we expect the performance to be dialed up soon.

While we mentioned this is a Pro Mod drag racer, perhaps we should call it a funny car - the amusement is owed to the fact that the seventh-generation Celica, which this behemoth tries to impersonate, only came in front-wheel-drive trim. As for the power, this drag strip monster packs ten times the maximum output of the car Toyota sold in the 2000s.

Many Celica owners saw other enthusiasts pointing out the straight line limitations of their machines. Perhaps the drag strip animal we have here was born to silence all those critics. Heck, such a racecar doesn't need an excuse, so we're inviting you to hit the "play" button below and enjoy its vicious attitude.
