17th BMW Art Car to Be Unveiled on December 5th at 2013 Art Basel in Miami

The 17th BMW Art Car ever to be made will be making its North American debut in Miami Beach, on December 5th, at the 2013 Art Basel fair. The car was designed by Jeff Koons as a tribute to the first ever such model, made by Andy Warhol in 1979. However, this time instead of the legendary M1, an E92 M3 GTS was used.

Andy Warhol’s creation will also be on display at the event, where BMW is being credited as an official partner and will be providing shuttle cars (such as a couple of i3s and 7 Series).

“It is with great pride we bring the Jeff Koons Art Car to the US and present it for the first time publically in North America,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America.

“Koons wanted to design a BMW Art Car because of the tradition set forth by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and other great American artists, that is why we are very proud to display both the Koons and the Warhol car at the same event,” he added.

In case the name Jeff Koons doesn't ring a bell, we'd like to remind you that one of his sculptures was recently sold at an auction for USD58.4 million.
