167 Tesla Model S Fleet for Amsterdam’s Green Schiphol Airport

Planning a trip to Amsterdam? Here’s what you won’t burn there as soon as you step out of the airplane - fossil fuels, as the Schiphol airport just became a bit more... greener.
In an attempt to become one of the most eco-friendly airports in the world, Amsterdam’s Schipol just received its 167-unit Tesla Model S electric car fleet, operated by BBF Schipholtaxi or BIOS-groep, making it the first one in the business to offer such a service.

"The new fleet of 100 per cent electrically-powered Teslas allows passengers to continue their journey from Schiphol in total comfort," said Jos Nijhuis, Schiphol Group's President and CEO. "At Schiphol, high-quality transport and an environmental conscience go hand in hand. This represents a crucial step in our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and become one of the world's three most sustainable airports."

The zero-emissions fleet are set to serve Schiphol for at least four years, with an optional extension deal of up to eight years, period which is basically covered by the infinite mile battery and drive unit warranty (limited at 125,000 mile for the basic version).

Schiphol said nothing about the version the two taxi companies have gone with, but since we’re speaking of hauling people from here to there at the smallest cost and in the most efficient way, we bet all 167 Teslas are fitted with the 60 kWh battery pack.

This means each of them has a 208-mile range (335 km), goes from nought to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 120 mph (193 mph). That sounds just about enough to catch a plane after a night of party and a massive hangover.
