"Is it a GT-R?" This is the kind of question every R32 Nissan Skyline owner must be sick and tired of. Well, today we're here to show you an R32 that's not a GT-R because it has better things to do in racing life.
The racecar comes from Qatar, where a team called Get Boost Garage is aiming for the stock chassis import world record. When you're chasing such a goal, tradition doesn't really mean anything, which is why this Nissan sounds more like a Supra if we are to discuss the contents of its engine compartment.
The Skyline has skipped Nissan's RB motor, being animated by a 2JZ engine, with the mill being pushed to no less than 1,600 horses. While the factory 3.0-liter displacement has been kept, a massive 94-mm turbocharger and a nitrous setup take care of the power.
However, when it comes to such extreme pieces of machinery, putting the power down is just as important as the output itself. The footage below will show you the Skyline hitting a new personal 1/8-mile record, with the R32 managing to pull a 4.357s run at 171.18 mph (make that 276 km/h if you're reading this on the other side of the pond) .
That means the car is .03s away from grabbing the world record, which currently happens to belong to a team that comes from the same part of the world. We're talking about Bahrain's Ekanoo Racing.
Given the increasing number of builds Ekanoo has come up with over the last two years or so (you can find more on that topic here), we doubt they're ready to give up the record too easily, so we're prepared for a fierce battle.
