$158,950 BMW Z8 Dinan S2 Up for Grabs on eBay

A while back we were telling you about just how high prices for BMW Z8 models are right now, with an imminent collector’s item pending for the beautiful roadsters. Now we’re taking a look at an even more exclusive model, one that might not be to everyone’s taste.

When it comes to collectibles, people usually fall into two categories, vastly different. Some prefer the cars to be original, just like the company that made them intended for them to be. At the same time, others want their older cars with a little twist.

You see, the US got only 2,543 of the 5,703 units ever made of this car and out of the bunch only a selected 10 had the chance to be transformed by the guys from Dinan.

While Europeans could bask in the exclusivity offered by Alpina with their V8 Roadster, the US had to settle for Dinan’s creation. However, the two tuning companies had totally different approaches when they started working on the Z8.

Alpina made the car more comfortable and more laid-back, offering it exclusively with an automatic gearbox and a downgraded 4.8-liter V8. Instead of focusing on the sporty nature of the Bimmer, they made it more luxurious.

On the other hand, Dinan’s S2 had increased performance and a bigger engine. The total displacement was taken up to 5.0 liters and a variety of other changes were also thrown into the mix. A cold-air intake made of carbon fibre was used along with high flow throttle bodies, Dinan Stage 5 performance engine software, high-flow ceramic-coated headers and Dinan's Free Flow performance exhaust.

The gearbox received a new lightweight dual-mass flywheel and the limited-slip differential got a new gearing (3.9). A stage 2 suspension takes care of the extra grunt that was now rated at 470 HP and 491 lb-ft (666 Nm) of torque, 70 HP and 166 Nm (120 lb-ft) more than the original.

One such model is now up for grabs on eBay and the seller wants $158,950 for it. Considering how rare such a car is, we reckon it’s worth the money but only if you know what you’re buying. This car will be worth even more in 10 years or so.
