The first-generation Audi R8 has reached a pivotal point in its life - the Lamborghini Gallardo sister car is still fresh enough to deliver, while depreciation has made it available to a much wider audience. Heck, you can grab a V8 model starting from around $50,000, while the V10 kicks off about $20,000, albeit with this being the lower end of the market. As such, we can expect to see plenty of original R8 builds and we're here to talk one that's the definition of "extreme".
Coming from a group of aficioandos over in Finalnd, this R8 V10 Coupe has been transformed into a time attack beast.

By now, we've seen the V10 engine that powers the R8 and the Gallardo/Huracan being pushed to north of 3,500 horsepower, but most developments of the sort come from the drag racing realm.

Well, the ten-cylinder hear of this Ingolstadt supercar now delivers almost thre times the factory output. Thanks to a twin-turbo kit, the 5.2-liter motor churns out around 1,500 hp at the crank (a recent dyno test showed approximately 1,300 hp at the wheels).

Keep in mind that, since we're talking about a time attack build, this package needs to be drivable and reliable, so top end numbers aren't everything.

However, the most striking part of this mid-engined audi is the aero. In typical TA stile, the aerodynamic bits and pieces fitted to the machine are super-sized and that's a major understatement.

Under the skin, this R8 packs plenty of custom work, with the front suspension frame being an example as good as any (you can check this out in some of the Instagram posts below). In fact, it seems there's not much left of the factory monocoque.

Thanks to a serious diet, which obviously involved the kind of cabin stripping you'd exoect from a racecar, the Audi now tips the scales at just 1,200 kg, which makes it lighter than the factory motorsport incarnations of the R8.

Oh, and did I mention this Audi R8 has gone RWD?
