Authorities keep badgering drivers to not leave their vehicles unlocked, with the engine running or their children inside unsupervised, no matter how little time they’re gone, but the drivers don’t seem to resonate. Not all of them, at least.
One mother from Little Rock, Arkansas has been arrested and charged after her Audi was stolen with her child inside, ABC affiliate KATV reports. The thief has also been apprehended and the car will eventually be returned to its rightful owner.

The report notes that the mother called the cops immediately after her ride was taken. As the officers were talking to her, they received a call that the car had been spotted at a nearby mobile home park. A unit drove over, and the thief of the Audi, a 15-year-old boy, rushed out of the driver seat and tried to run away into the woods.

He was caught after a short chase. The passenger he’d been with, believed to have aided him in stealing the car, also made a run for it on foot and hasn’t been apprehended yet.

“During their search for the passenger, police also located a stolen Hyundai Sonata that authorities believe the suspects used during the theft of the Audi,” KATV says. “According to the police report, the juvenile faces two counts of theft of property and one count of felony possession of drugs, as well as misdemeanor charges for fleeing and resisting arrest.”

Meanwhile, the mother aka the victim will have to face the music for not properly caring for her child and needlessly exposing him to a dangerous situation by leaving him inside the car without supervision. She’s been arrested and charged with one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The child was released to the father and wasn’t harmed during the carjacking and subsequent ride.
