Now and then a small German tuner called Boba Motoring who is obsessed with old Volkswagen Golfs comes up with a project that swipes the drag racing world off its feet. Most of their builds are based on the VW Golf Mk1, but this time we are talking about a Mk2. One that’s devilishly fast.
The Vee-Dub in the video below recently managed to enter the 8s quarter mile club, stunning the audience at the drag strip. Remember, we are talking about a machine that’s about three decades old, but has gone through a process that makes the word “restomod” barely acceptable.

The machine now delivers 1,233 hp with the help of a two-liter engine and a turbine whose size alone would be enough to scare any potential competitors away. The machine puts its extreme power to good use with the help of a DSG transmission, as well as 4Motion all-wheel drive. Remember, this is a highly tuned pocket monster, so we are talking about wheel horsepower here.

To put things into perspective, we’ll mention the Golf can play the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 2.3 seconds. The list of surreal specs goes on as the speed increases.

The best part of the story is the streetable one

Keep in mind we are not talking about a stripped-out racecar. Oh no, This Golf is a street car that features a full interior. Speaking of which, the vehicle tips the scales at 2,600 lbs (1,180 kg).

Mix all the ingredients mentioned above, and you end up with a quarter mile run showing jaw-dropping numbers: 8.99s at 164.6 mph (265 km/h).

You can check out the insane VW doing its thing in the clip below, but we must warn you about one thing - once you see this speedometer racing on the dash, your standards will be blown away.
