Earlier today, we talked about how the US drag racing scene sees the wicked getting no rest these days and we’re back on the topic to tell you the Germans aren’t exactly sitting at home and decorating the Christmas tree. The latest example of this comes from Boba motoring, a small tuner that adores big-horsepower old Golfs.
On this occasion, we are dealing with a Volkswagen Golf Mk II, a machine that allows the driver to... try to control over 1,200 hp at the wheels.

To be more precise, the contraption’s most recent dyno run saw the machine delivering well over 1,200 hp and a peak twist of 807 lb-ft (1,094 Nm) while running on E85.

The powaaah comes courtesy of a 2-liter 16V engine that uses an extreme turbo working at 63 psi. Further down the power line, we find a six-speed sequential dog box. As most machines massaged by Boba Motoring, this Vee Dub packs all-wheel-drive. We’re talking about a Haldex-based system that comes with a controller allowing the driver to switch between multiple settings, depending on the shenanigans the car is being used for.

As for the connection to the road, this MK II uses 16-inch wheels shod in Toyo R888 rubber than comes in a 225/45 size.

The thing tips the scales at 2,601 lbs (1,180 kg), keeping its complete interior. As for the things that derive from such a power-to-weight ratio, the acceleration figures alone can make one dizzy.

Despite having a sleeper aura, this Golf can complete the 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run in 2.3 seconds, while it needs 3 seconds flat to cover the 62-124 mph (100-200 km/h) sprint. And yes, despite the all-wheel-drive, the driver sometimes has to wrestle the car at frightening speeds just to keep it accelerating in a straight line.

When it comes to the quarter mile, this is a high-eight-second car whose 3.5-inch exhaust delivers a pleasantly-intrusive aural side.
