Forget the Russian dash cam footage, that’s starting to go out of fashion. These days, if you want to put Russia and cars into the same sentence, you have to talk about drag racing. Unsurprisingly, these people have a thing for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and today we’re here to show you a SRT8 that taken on cars like the Nissan GT-R or the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Since this is the Unlimited 500 drag races series we’ve talked about on numerous occasions, we are not dealing with stock cars. The Grand Cherokee we are focusing on has seen its 6.4-liter Hemi V8 taken all the way up to a sweet 1,200 HP.

As for the supercars it competes against, we’ll start with the Gallardo. In the world of twin-turbo Lambos, 2,000 raging bulls seems to be the norm, hence the output of this particular car.

When talking about Godzilla, we must mention two separate cars. The Jeep first raced an 1,800 HP Nissan, while subsequently the SUV battled it out with an 850 hp GT-R. Sure, the muscle difference speaks for itself, but it’s still mildly amusing to see a Grand Cherokee out-launch and outperform a tuned GT-R.

The general performance context for this 1,200 HP Jeep

In case you were wondering how special this Jeep is in the world of Grand Cherokes, we have to explain it’s not the fastest, not even when it comes to Europe. Still, it’s not far from the car which holds that title - an 1,300 hp SRT8 that’s not only the quickest in Europe, but also the 4th fastest in the world.

Nonetheless, those statistics are for the SRT8 model and we’re not sure if they include the Grand Cherokee SRT version that took over after the latest facelift.

As for the runs you’ll see in the footage below are 1,000m (0.625 miles) races, but the quarter mile telemetry data is also shown, so you can easily analyze the performance of each car.
