1,200 HP BMW M6 vs Alpina B6 Gran Coupe MT Comparison Turns Pizza-vs-Pasta Fight

Choosing between the BMW M6 Gran Coupe and the Alpina B6 Gran Coupe is a bit like the good old red wine vs. white wine battle, except you can't turn to the help of the food associated with the grape juice to make a decision. So Motor Trend decided to make things even more complicated by pitting these two four-doors against each other.

For quite a few years now, BMW, M Division included, is caught in a personality dilemma, struggling to keep up with consumer requirements that mean the Bavarian automaker's sporty-is-enough old ways are no longer sufficient.

However, when it comes to the German carmaker's favorite partner, tuner also-carmaker Alpina, the company has been doing the same thing for decades, namely bringing range-topping BMWs to a complete gentleman specification.

As a result, the comparo we have here simply takes the differences between the two labels and shows us how they apply to the Gran Coupe story. Ah, who are we kidding? Things are never simple when Jason Camisa and Johny Lieberman get together.

Oh, and if we keep in mind that the two get... shaken and stirred by racing driver Randy Pobst, the conclusion of this duel can get more complicated than you'd expect, despite the pair of editors delivering a winner at the end of the Head To Head video.

However, we can mention that the two 600 hp machines get tested in pretty much any relevant manner. For instance, given the Alpina's all-wheel-drive start advantage, the drag racing part of the review doesn't just stick to the standing start adventure, as it also involves a rolling take-off stunt. But we'll stop throwing spoilers here, inviting you to reach over to the "play" button below.

The dual Gran Coupe video here is almost 24 minutes long, so if you're in a big hurry, many the pros and cons dropped in the footage can be summarized by jumping to the 0:17 point of the second clip below.
